There is a risk of drowning anywhere there is water.
It is estimated that there are 11 drowning deaths per day in the United States.
For children aged 1yr-4yrs, drowning is the leading cause of death
For children aged 5yrs-14yrs, drowning is the 2nd leading cause of unintentional injury death after motor vehicle crashes

Do’s
Always assign a water watcher
Learn CPR
Teach children to always ask for permission before going near water
Always swim with a buddy
Swim in designated areas with a lifeguard present
Only dive in designated areas
Fence pools with adequate barriers, use door alarms
Take swim lessons
Learn what to do in a water emergency
Call 911
Know CPR
If a child is missing, check the water first

Leave children unsupervised near water
Forget your sunscreen
Rely solely on floatation devices as may give children a false sense of security in the water even when floaties are not on.
