Fresh Year, Fresh Goals, Let’s Do This!
As the new year starts, we all get the urge to reset and restart, but it doesn’t necessarily need to be a reset, it can be an opportunity to refocus our current goals as well. Whether modifying current goals or making new goals, having a plan will set you up for success.
Set SMART goals
Specific
Measurable
Achievable
Relevant
Time-Bound
A good example of a SMART goal for career networking: I will connect with 20 new, relevant professionals in my industry via LinkedIn over the next 3 months to learn about new trends and opportunities, aiming to have 3 meaningful follow-up conversations to build genuine relationships.
Try not to set too many goals as it can be easy to lose focus
Schedule regular time to track your progress towards your goals
Shift to a Gratitude Mindset
Try making a vision board to highlight your goals for the year
Make a list of all the things you're grateful for, big or small
Reflect on why past resolutions might have failed to refine your approach for the new year
Start journaling
Read a new book each month
Say “no” without any guilt
Career Goals
Learn a new skill related to your field
Become a mentor or find yourself a mentor
Network with other professionals in your field.
Active Goals
Take the stairs instead of the elevator
Progressively increase daily step goals by 1,000 steps per day at the start of each week until reaching 10,000 steps/day
Clean Eating
Drink more water daily
Reduce sugar intake
Meal prep 2-3x/wk to limit fast food
Your goals for the new year can encompass a wide range of topics, including health and fitness, personal development, financial management, nurturing relationships, and enhancing overall personal well-being. In the end, the focus should ultimately be on self-improvement or maintaining one's well-being.
