February is National Children’s Dental Health Month
Dental health is important because the health of your mouth, teeth, and gums is connected to your overall health. It can improve digestion, reduce risks of heart disease, boost self confidence and so much more. Good dental hygiene practices are recommended for all age groups.
American Dental Association Recommendations
Pediatric
Schedule first dental visit as soon as the first tooth appears and no later than their 1st birthday
As soon as first tooth appears, start brushing twice daily for 2 minutes with fluoride toothpaste
Less than 3yrs: smear/grain of rice size toothpaste
3yrs+: pea-sized amount of toothpaste)
Start flossing daily as soon as the teeth start to touch
Replace toothbrushes every 3-4 months
Limit sugary drinks/foods
Discuss your child’s fluoride needs with your dentist or pediatrician
Regular Dentist Visits every 6months
Adults
Brush teeth twice daily for 2 minutes with fluoride toothpaste
Floss teeth daily
Eat a healthy diet limiting sugary drinks/foods
See Dentist regularly
